Midwestern Dry Gin is inspired by the traditional London Dry Gins that famously emphasize the spicy and aromatic character of mature Juniper berries. By selecting only the finest botanicals from around the world, the result is bold, full-flavored Gin with layers of aroma and a complexity of flavor that makes it perfect for sipping on the rocks or ideal for classic cocktails.

They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. So goes the story of our Midwestern Dry Gin. We always knew if we were going to make a Gin at J. Rieger & Co. it was going to be a traditional London Dry style. The knowledge and skill set to create a perfectly balanced Gin is not something acquired overnight and that’s where friends come into play. One of our partners in the distillery introduced us to his friend Tom Nichol in 2015. When we were first connected to Tom, he was getting ready to retire from being the Master Distiller of Tanqueray. He was ready for a passion project and after flying to Kansas City from his hometown in Scotland, meeting our team, and taking a deep dive into the brand we were trying to resurrect, he decided he wanted to join our family. Through constant communication and multiple visits to Kansas City each year, Tom is bestowing his lifetime of Gin distilling knowledge on our Head Distiller Nathan Perry. Our Midwestern Dry Gin is the culmination of Tom’s life’s work.

OUR PROCESS

Tom said that if he was going to make the best Gin in America, we needed to use the best botanicals in the world. So that’s what we did. Beginning with the cleanest 100% Wheat NGS available, we then source our five botanicals (juniper berries, coriander seed, angelica root, licorice root powder, and dried orange peel) from the same source that supplies the finest Gin distilleries in the world. We utilize our 120-gallon ‘Wee Still’ solely for gin distillation. Over a 5-hour distillation, Head Distiller Nathan monitors the output closely and makes constant adjustments to ensure that each batch is just as fantastic as the previous. If he didn’t, Nathan would lose his title of Tom Nichol’s protégé.

TASTING NOTES

Each ingredient in the gin is noticeable and serves a purpose. Being a classic London dry it leads with juniper on the nose and palate but that is married to the coriander with the earthy/almost melon like characteristic of the angelica. With the orange peel accentuating with some bright citrus notes and an ever so slight sweetness coming from the licorice.whiskey very balanced.

How to Enjoy

Midwestern Dry Gin was designed to be the perfect gin for classic gin cocktails such as the Negroni or the Gin Martini, the original martini that is. Try mixing it with your favorite Tonic, and garnishing it with a slice of orange in place of the lime.
